Princesses in the Snow
on February 10th, 2012 at 10:07 pmSometimes I find that it’s fun to think about the characters I know from the books I love and imagine them in strange, new, even fantastic situations. When I’m feeling especially silly (It happens. Just ask my family.) I imagine scenes like Dracula trying to talk his way out of a parking ticket or the Riders of Rohan, from The Lord of the Rings, trying to pick up a little something for the road at a drive-through fast food restaurant. (“Okay, so that’s 1,856 Big-’n'-Greasies, two with no cheese, one with extra onions. . .Wait, do the extra onions go on one of the Big-’n'-Greasies with cheese or without cheese?. . .How many diet colas? Wait a minute. . .Hey! Lord Eomer! Did you want diet or regular?. . .Right, one diet cola, the rest regular, and yes, we want fries with that. . .No salt on 487 of them, though. ’k, thanks, and death to Sauron. And a small vanilla cone.”)
Well, right now we’re waiting for it to snow here. I don’t like snow. I don’t get snow days, I don’t ski, but I do drive, and snow makes for some hazardous driving conditions. In otehr words, I am not happy with the weather forecast and I am trying to cheer myself up by imagining how the heroines of my books would react to it. Helen’s from Sparta, where–as far as I have been able to learn–it doesn’t snow and the winters don’t usually get colder than the 50s. Nefertiti is from Egypt: No snow. Ever. You can get some chillier winter temperatures at night, butu only down to the 40s. Winter days are usually warmer than that.
So, hwo do you think they’d deal with their very first-ever snow day? Of course they would be dealing with it together, so what sort of a conversation do you think they’d have? Would they go outside or just watch it from inside a nice, warm (modern) house?
Let me see what you come up with! ;)
